Here are a selection of photos to show what we have been up to in Term 2. Most of the time we are using the key competencies " Managing Self" and "Relating to Others. We have to make sensible choices about our learning and behaviour as well as working, learning and playing with others.
We played with balloons before we started doing paper mache on them. We are trying to create planets because we have been learning about "Space".
Some of us don't really like getting our fingers slimed all over with paste when we do paper mache but we are pretty good at it anyway. You have to put layers of paper and glue onto the balloon to make it strong and it takes a long time to dry.
Key Competencies: Managing Self and Relating to Others. From Monday to Wednesday morning we have a special learning time with Room 17. We practice sharing games and equipment, taking turns, using kind words, problem-solving, being inclusive and having fun! We spend time on lots of different activities that we choose. We always talk about our goals and have time to reflect on our learning after we tidy up.
Yay! One day our buddy class came along to help us with paper mache because we wanted to get our planets done. Our buddies helped us a lot so thanks to them!
During our morning sessions we also help others and use a lot of talking to negotiate what we do with our friends. Some people like to revisit an activity but others like to try lots of different things with different friends.
More paste and more paper...
After playtime on Fridays we usually go to Kapa Haka in the hall. We are learning to sing waiata and do the actions. We practice with Whaea Pam and the seniors. We are learning our school song and other songs so we can use them to welcome new people at our powhiris.
